My previous work-“Emigration of Indian Labour, 1834-1900”, appeared long ago in 1970 has been re-written with new documents and presented in a new perspective. The area of study has also been extended taking into consideration emigration to other British and foreign overseas colonies besides British Guiana, Trinidad, Jamaica and Mauritius. I am sure that it will open a new dimension to the socio-economic and cultural factors that facilitated emigration of Indian indentured labourers to the overseas colonies. I am confident that the present work will receive proper attention as a new serious contribution to the study of labour emigration in the 19th century from the academic world like my earlier one.The foreword of Prof. Eric J.
